To buy or not to buy?
OK folks, i've searched for a similar thread but couldn't find one that suitable answered my question so i've made my own. I've currently got 3 hours and 45 minutes left on my 10 hour trial of GW. This is my first time ingame and i really enjoyed it. There are a few problems with the trial, for example, i cannot chat to anyone at all. This leaves me stuck with questions that, if the answer can't be found on google, won't be answered.
I suppose the only question i've really got left is, "Is it worth it?" A one time charge is simple with no fees so i could play whenever i wish. I'm a big EVE player but wanted a second mmo for when EVE was down or boring. In my first 6 1/2 hours ingame i've got a w/r to lvl 8. Since the max level is only another dozen levels away is it worth buying the game? I've read a lot of posts stating that all there is endgame is pvp and title grinding. Could always level up another character but i always find the second time through an mmo it doesn't seem to shine as much. In conclussion, should i bite the bullet and pay my 12 quid to get a cdkey and dos around in GW for a bit? or cherish my last 10 hours in a very good looking game and move on. Any comments are appreciated and please try not to flame, i know this post might upset people but i'm on the fence and would like some honest opinions. Thanks! |

The game only really begins when you're max lvl -_-... Its different, here being lvl 20 means nothing at all, since everybody is. You should try it. I mean, its 15~$ to buy one game, so buy one, and if its fun just buy the rest of them...
I think thats the best option. |

If you've had fun so far I'd say give it ago, one campaign is the same price as a month of Eve. I've been playing mine for 36 months now, with around 3000 hours (granted some are afk:P) but I can still play WoW WhenI want and alt between the too so it's handy. game kinda begins at 20 in the other games so tbh there is a nice bit to get though. |

Well people are here because they decided it's worth buying
But seriously, this game is worth the money. Even if you don't like it (but hey you tried it already) - it's still worth the money. Because it's quality. It's like buying a diamond necklace. Ok, maybe you don't like the style and shape, but it's worth the money ps: $15 these days? Eh, it was worth $50 Quote:

gw, in its essence, is a game you play because you like the gameplay. both pve and pvp are highly repetitive, but it's not a REAL problem, because you don't have to grind if you don't want to.
it is fun to complete all chapters and the addon for the first time, maybe a second or third time for nostalgic feelings or if you play with friends. however, it gets dull and you won't see anything new in the future. while pveing you should start pvping. find a balanced guild, which practices both and you may experience the sensation of playing gw and a long-term motivation to do so. pvp is gw's endgame, if you don't like pvp you'll have countless hours of fun, but will move one similar to a decent offline rpg. |

I do enjoy the game, it reminds me of when i first started playing D2. It's nice to see so many supporters posting literally minutes after my initial post. I think you're right, for the 12 pounds it'll cost me it's definately worth it. Thanks for all the opinions and comments guys!

Yes, it's definitely worth it. Forget about leveling, because getting to 20 is just the beginning. As a matter of fact, you'll hit 20 well before you get to the end of the story-line.
As for end-game content, there's more than PvP and grinding. There are "elite" areas such as Fissure of Woe and The Underworld to play around in, Hard Mode becomes available after you complete the campaign. Aside from the normal, day-to-day stuff, there are festivals that take place throughout the year. The most popular ones are Halloween and Wintersday (Christmas/New Years). |

GW is more than worth it.
The level cap means there's more level 20 content, so they don't waste areas you otherwise would never come back to. This is even more so if you play Hard Mode. It will take some time before you know all the skills and classes and the game mechanics, so I wouldn't worry on that part. If you liked it so far, I would go for it. |

And really, levels in GW are irrelevant for the most part. Progression in the game is about getting skills and, well, becoming skilled. And that's one of the major draws to GW really. |

Also, with no monthly fee GW is definitely the best MMO to play on a casual basis. I've played it for a few years now and had periods where I played 3 hours a day and periods where I played 3 hours per week. It's great because you never have to feel like you're wasting your money if you don't/can't play for a while.

Since you seem unsure if you want to stay, I won't press the matter, but the current best buy is Complete Edition (all 4 chapters) for the price of a regular boxed game - would be $50 in the US, I don't know the normal UK pricing. |

I would say this game is only alot of fun it you got all the campaigns, including gw:en, so you got all armor and all skills so you can do some decent things. It's totaly worth the monney though. Imagine you play for 50 hours, its only 1 euro an hour then Its a very nice game.
And about becoming lvl 20 etc.. the game only starts at lvl20, and becomes a lot more fun at that point. And grinding is just optional, cause you dont NEED it. Though I suggest you throwing yourself into the game instead of playing only when EVE is boring. As there are alot of elite area's which are much fun, but you need decent teams, which you wont find (and won't be) if you only play so shortly. But still if you only play for only a few times, it's very fun game, really enjoyed playing if for the last 4 years. |

Also, if you like more common approach (slow development which increases character abilities), try expansion Eye of the North (after finishing one campaign). +1 for buying three campaigns set (or in Europe there was last year in stores edition 3 campaigns + Eye of The North, but I think it is sold out). The Complete Collection, that is the 3 campaigns proficies/nightfall/Factions and the Expansion Eye of North will set you back ??24.99.
So in effect you can take any char you make in any campaign to the other campain letting them play all campaigns and eye. You have various classes to play ..each one is different so each class has a differnet gamestyle so you will not get fed up playing as you switch to any of the 8 classes you will have. So if your considering coming to Guild Wars you will have many happy hours playing it..if so go for Complete Collecton. Look at this way 1 char you make has 3 campaigns plus eye of north expansion playing just 1 class ....you have 8 slots/chars each has its own playstyle and different outlook on the game missions BTW (EDIT) Play.com still has them at 24.99 Last edited by Highlander Of Alba; Aug 12, 2009 at 01:12 PM // 13:12.. The fact that 5 years later people are still playing and or talking about it should be your answer. And it's really cheap right now so how can you go wrong?

If this is going to be your second MMO, GW is an easy game to recommend.
The things that people are upset about basically fall into two categories: 1) Players are thrashing the endgame content, and ANet literally created the problems there by buffing skills, introducing ridiculous PvE-only skills and items that provide party-wide buffs. 2) The PvP side is not being maintained well. Stale metas with obviously broken skills are not being corrected. If you're going to be playing GW as a secondary game, you'll never feel either of those problems. One piece of advice: be sure to purchase Nightfall for starters. You'll need the heroes. |

I would buy on expansion, get to level 20, get HM, get good heros if its NF, then start on the other 2 and EoTN if you find you like it.
If not then dont waste more money on it! |
